Coinjock Marina to Portsmouth, VA

We left Coinjock Marina this morning at 7:05. Our stay there was rather disappointing. There was nothing in the area to do. Lots of locals going to the restaurant. I feel sorry for them if that is the only place to eat. It was not worth the money.

Lauren got off the marina dock this morning without incident. She's becoming a pro at driving the boat. We saw numerous ospreys and cormorants and a few buzzards and turtles. It was an uneventful cruise even though we had several bridges to wait for openings and our first lock of the journey. There will be many more of those to come. Locking through was pretty straightforward and easy. We made reservations for Tidewater Yacht Marina in Portsmouth Marina and Lauren brought Heidi-Ho down the narrow lane and into our reserved slip without any issues. Since this was her first solo docking, she was nervous, but did just fine.

Heidi-Ho at Dock

We passed by a small aircraft carrier undergoing repairs and several navy ships in the repair docks. We will be here for a few days to explore the town and hopefully get someone to look at our alternator.

Go Navy

As the sun was setting, we sat out on the foredeck and watched the comings and goings in the marina and the harbor beyond the marina. This are has a lot of noise from boats of all sizes; paddlewheel ferry, coast guard helicopters and commercial airplanes, plus a train somewhere nearby which all makes for an interesting stay.
