Alternator problems continue

April 1, 2025

This morning Brian finished our taxes. One more item off our checklist.

It was a rather sedate day waiting for the repairmen to show. We took a few short walks. Today we had another marine electrical expert (Bob) onboard to try to solve our alternator over-heating dilemma. Bob spent quite a bit of time going through our lithium ion phosphate battery system. He was stymied. His best diagnosis is that the problem is in the APS 500 (alternator regulator). He tested out everything else that he could think of that could be causing the alternator to be receiving current when it shouldn't be. Tomorrow, we'll try to find a source for a new regulator for the alternator. So it looks like we will be staying in Portsmouth for a few more days than originally planned. On the upside, it will allow us to spend more time exploring the city.

While sitting here typing, we are waiting for a repairman for our new washer/dryer combo. We took a video of it running on the dry cycle so that the repairman could listen to the ungodly noise that it makes. He thinks it might be the fan; we shall see. Lauren checked out the marina's laundry facility just in case our machine doesn't get fixed.

Matt, the Splendide technician came by 6:30 this evening and dismantled the machine to see if there was any obvious damage to the unit. He didn't see anything, so he started the dryer cycle, and discovered that motor for the dryer is defective and needs to be replaced as it was making a horrible screeching sound. Matt burned his finger on the heating element; he said it felt like a shock. The heating element was actually working just as it should be. Matt will call Splendide headquarters first thing tomorrow morning and order a new motor for the blower unit. He asked that Brian also call headquarters to let them know what was going on with this brand new washer/dryer combo, so that hopefully we will not get charged for the repairs. Matt stayed and chatted for a bit. He is very personable. We were thrilled that he was able to come out after hours to look at this problem. He also recommended several eateries here in town for us to check out.
